1) What kind of therapy do you do?

Jungian, somatic, psychodynamic, existential and attachment theory form the foundation of my training.  I work with people and their relationships to themselves and others.  Many times I use traditional talk therapy, other times I incorporate both talk therapy and the psychologically oriented moving meditation of Archetypal Qigong (AQ).  AQ is a psychologically oriented form of qigong that helps people move through the emotional, psychological and spiritual challenges inherent in life.  It is added to supplement talking and deepen the process of integrating talk therapy.  AQ is also a great means of alleviating symptoms with out using conventional psychopharmacology.  I also use cognitive-behavioral and neuro-linguistic programming interventions.  All of theses tools aim towards helping you live a more meaningful, satisfying, and enjoyable life.

2) I talk and talk and talk and nothing ever happens.  Why?

Although talking alone can in many cases be curative, it can also lead to repetitive stories and unproductive conversations.  That is why I incorporate, when appropriate, the moving meditation of Archetypal Qigong (AQ).  Not only does AQ relieve symptoms, it also offers physical and psychological forms to contain the body and mind.  Understanding and changing the psyche’s needs and structures is more possible when mind and body work together.

3) I don’t think 12 sessions is enough, do you?

Some problems resolve relatively quickly, others take longer.  We are not mechanical beings and one size does not fit all.  If a thought pattern, issue, or feeling has been with you for a while it may take more than 12 sessions to resolve.  Some components in the psyche need to be approached gently and unraveled slowly.  We will find the right length of therapy for you.  There is no limit on the number of your sessions.

4) Don’t you think therapy lasts too long?

Yes, in many cases it does.  That is why I offer a variety of treatment approaches that address different types of problems from different angles.  In most cases the length of therapy depends upon the nature of your issue or problem.  Beneath symptoms lie the psyche’s structure.  By working with this structure–no matter what the “presenting problem” is, the psyche changes and life deepens.  You decide when you feel like you have gotten what you need and are ready to return to life without therapy.

“The main interest of my work is not concerned with the treatment of neuroses but rather with the approach to the numinous. But the fact that the approach to the numinous is the real therapy, and inasmuch as you attain to the numinous experience you are released from the curse of pathology. Even the very disease takes on a numinous character.”
